Scale
In Unreal Engine 3, 1 Unreal Unit (1 grid unit) is equal to 2 centimeters (cm).
16 uus = 0.32m (32cm) = 1.05ft (12.598 in)
32 uus = 0.64m (64cm) = 2.1ft (25.197 in)
64 uus = 1.28m (128cm) = 4.2ft (50.39 in)
128 uus = 2.56m (256cm) = 8.4ft (100.79 in)
256 uus = 5.12m (512cm) = 16.8ft (201.57 in)
512 uus = 10.24m (1024cm) = 33.6ft (403.15 in)
1024 uus = 20.48m (2048cm) = 67.19ft (806.299 in)
1 inch = 2.54 cm
1 foot = 30.48cm or 0.3048 meters
1 meter = 3.280839895 feet
1000 meters = 1 kilometer
5280 feet = 1 mile
However, due to various factors such as the 1st and 3rd person cameras, player movement, etc., most real-world objects should be scaled up to about 1.5x to look proper in-game.
Attempting to use a 16 uus = 1 foot scale may be fine for smaller maps, however, over larger distances you will soon find that the scale is off. So it is usually best to use the defaults metric scaling.
Licensees and TC/Mod makers can adjust this scale usually between 1uu=1cm and 1uu=4cm, but you should not exceed this range too much.
Player Height
Player model height is usually 96 uus (192 cm), which is approximately 75.59 inches or 6’3½”, with a common usable player model range of between 88 uus and 96 uus (176 to 192 cm, 69.3 to 75.59 inches or 5’9″ to 6’4″).
With permission, I am hosting this information for the UT 3 editor. A big thanks to DGUnreal for allowing this useful information to live on. I duplicated the tutorials as they were given to me. There may be information that was going to be added by DGUnreal. But take this information on this page as completed.
