I am happy to announce that the UOF Map Pack 2 is finally ready to be played by the community. We have been working on the maps since we released the first maps. I hope you enjoy playing them. Feel free to leave any feedback at the following forums [Beyond Unreal] [Epic] [UOF]. Enjoy! Select the image to see the other maps.
I am starting to get a better understanding of what you can do with Blender 2.5X and UT 3 [UDK too]. Keep in mind this is based on my current level of knowledge of Blender, creating static meshes, and the exporters that are available. Feel free to let me know if any of the information is incorrect. You can check out the Blender to Unreal FAQ here and see what my current understand is of the process. I also hope to have the Blender and GIMP sections properly formatted by this weekend (with working links/anchors}.
I have the basic outline for the new Blender tutorial page. This page will focus on the newer version, which is currently in beta. The page will develop as my understanding of the program grows. As always, feel free to contact me with information of sites or specific tutorials.
I have added links to the GIMP tutorial page. It’s complete enough to show to everyone and it will grow with time. I have download more plug-ins and will check these out over time. More tutorials will be added as well. If you would like me to create a Beginner’s FAQ based on my knowledge, just ask me the questions. Hope you find this section useful.
Hello all… I am planning to create a new death match level that will have custom content created by myself (and possibly others). I want this level to be “as close to a stock map” as I know how to make. I will be documenting my progress from the very start to the end. I will try to keep the updates relevant so they can be applied to any map. This may help other map makers with their workflow. I will also be creating a new Blender 2.5x section as well as a GIMP section as these will be the 2 programs that I will be using in addition to the editor. I may also add a “camera to texture” section, if there is enough information on the web to support it. I will try to update at least once a week, hopefully more. I need to finish my current map, so I can start to focus on my new project.
“The Ball” game has been released on Steam. It was created by Toltec Studios, which is lead by Hourences. I have always been a fan of Hourences work. He is a great level designer and has always been helpful to the community. With his numerous tutorials and texture packs, he has given us amateur level designers a bit more knowledge and assets for our creations. I will be buying the game in the near future to check out their great work and to support Hourences efforts. Check out the Beyond Unreal’s review of the game for more info.
A week has gone by and now my theme is fairly dialed in [still need to do a little more tweaking]. The UT 3 Maps, UT 3 Tutorial list (in addition to all of the tutorials hosted here), and the Resources page are essentially done and operational. Any downloads associated with these pages that are hosted here should also be working. Let me know if you have any issues. I do plan to have the site fully transferred by the end of September. I need to get back to the “business” of mapping as well.
This post servers 2 purposes. First, to let everyone know that I have most of the UT 3 related pages converted. The 2 remaining steps are to upload/configure the pictures for the individual tutorial and map pages. I also need to figure out the whole permalink thing. I would like to just have the name of the post in the link, but when I select the post to view it by itself, it gives me a 404 error page. I presume I need to figure this out before I start linking to pages on my site? Second, I just wanted to see what multiple posts looks like with the default theme. I am having a hard time finding a theme I really like. With my old web authoring program, I was able to do what I wanted, though I was limited in functionality. So far with WordPress, I have more functionality, but I am sort of limited in what I can do with the visuals of the site. With so many themes out there, I am sure I will find one that works “well enough”. Time will tell.
After a week of waiting, my domain name has been transferred and it’s time to start rebuilding the site. The downloads may take a bit more time to upload (over 4 GB). When the inspiration hits me, I will create posts related to mapping on the home page. If you have any suggestions or comments on how to build a better site related to Unreal Level Design (UT 3 specifically), let me know.
